ON SEPTEMBER 18, THE TELEVISION ACADEMY EMMY AWARD CEREMONY WAS HELD. AS ONE OF THE BIGGEST MEDIA AWARD EVENTS EACH YEAR, THE MAIN EVENT (BESIDES THE AWARD SHOW ITSELF) IS THE GOVERNOR'S BALL. EACH YEAR, THIS SPECTACULAR EVENT OFFERS MUCH IN THE WAY OF INSPIRATION FOR EVENT PLANNING AND PRODUCTION. HERE ARE SOME OF THE MOST UNIQUE FEATURES OF THE CELEBRATIONS THIS YEAR.

THE THEME:

The theme for the Governor's Ball this year was "Nature's Elegance" executed by Los Angeles-based event company Sequoia Productions. They envisioned an enchanted nighttime garden inspired "both by the beauty of Old World gardens and the natural grandeur of the California landscape."

THE FLOWERS:

Often in events flowers are mere decor; not in this case. Flowers and greenery took center stage at the Governor's Ball with dreamy cascades of lilacs and moss, aerial canopies of wisteria and orchids, a grass and stone walkway through tunnels of green ivy and living walls of succulents and herbs. Subtle uplighting, tiny fairy and firefly style lights made the space reminiscent of a field on a summer evening. Fountains, both hidden and visible, echoed the sound of water flowing through the space. Event designer and master florist, Kevin Lee of Kevin Lee Productions oversaw the creation of this lush paradise and the installation of over 400,000 flowers to transform the LA Convention Center into a magical night garden.

In keeping with the sustainably-aimed theme, the farm-to-table commitment went deep here, with most menu items sourced from a single California family farm.

The enchanting theme is fully evident in the style and design of the dining space. Table settings in soft white and dusty rose, provide a soft, neutral background for abundant greenery and sophisticated floral centerpieces. Candlelight, mixed with strategic highlighting of the dramatic suspended floral arbors and subtle blue gels, echo the Midsummer Night's Dream feeling of this gorgeous design.
